These socks celebrate the rebellious work of the Solf Circle (1936-1944).
Led by a German widow, Johanna Solf, the Solf Circle risked torture and execution by establishing an intellectual resistance to Nazism in the heart of Berlin.
Comprised of a diverse cross-section of German citizens with a shared abhorrence to Nazi ideals, the circle organised safe houses and migration documents for persecuted minorities to help them escape Nazi terror, and in doing so, saved many lives.
In 1944, the circle was infiltrated by a Nazi member of the Gestapo, but thanks to a timely bomb and the advancing Russian army, Johanna avoided prosecution and survived the war.
